Inheritance Inventory
Not everything we inherit is something we need to keep.
We inherit more than family traditions, values and stories. We also inherit ways of communicating, responding to conflict, exercising authority, expressing care and relating to other people.
Some of these patterns serve us well. Others may have been necessary in one environment but stopped serving us in another. And sometimes, without realizing it, we reproduce the very behaviours we once promised ourselves we would do differently.
In this session, we’ll examine the personal and professional patterns we’ve inherited from the people, families, leaders and workplaces that shaped us. We’ll consider how these patterns influence the way we lead, work and relate, and create space to distinguish between what we want to carry forward and what we’re ready to change.
You’ll leave with: A clearer understanding of the patterns you’ve inherited, greater intention about the behaviours you want to practise, and encouragement to put down what no longer serves you.
Facilitated by Myrna McCallum, lawyer, former prosecutor, adjudicator and internationally recognized educator, whose work explores the intersections of trauma, relationships, workplace culture and institutional responsibility.
