When Self-Preservation Becomes a Pattern
The habits that once kept us safe do not always know when to stop.
Over preparing. Taking on more than we should so that nobody can call us a problem. Reading the room before we read the agenda. Holding an opinion back until we are certain it will land.
These are not character flaws. They are strategies that worked, often for a long time, often in places that gave us good reason to use them.
In this two hour Practice Session we look at what happens when those strategies outlive the situations that created them, and begin to shape how we lead, how we relate and what we are willing to risk.
What we will look at
- Where protective patterns come from and what they were doing for us
- How they show up at work as perfectionism, over functioning, conflict avoidance or control
- What it costs to carry them into a leadership role
- Recognizing them in the people we work with, without diagnosing anyone
- What it takes to loosen a pattern instead of shaming it
- Choosing differently in a situation you are sitting in right now
Who this is for
Anyone whose work puts them close to other people. Leaders, HR and labour relations teams, union representatives, advocates, educators, and people working in health, justice and community services. You do not need a title to come.
