SUMMARY:When People Shut Down
DESCRIPTION:Silence on a team is almost never neutral.\nSomeone stops contr
ibuting in meetings. Someone agrees with everything. Someone turns polite a
nd precise and gives us nothing. Someone leaves.\nWe tend to read those as
attitude problems. More often they are protective responses\, and they are
telling us something about what the room has been like.\nIn this two hour P
ractice Session we look at what shutting down is doing for the person doing
it\, and what it is asking of the rest of us.\nWhat we will look at\n\nFre
eze\, fawn\, flight and fight as they show up in meetings and email\, not i
 n a textbook\nWhat a person is protecting when they go quiet\nThe differenc
e between having nothing to say and deciding it is not worth saying\nHow ou
r own responses invite or close down other people\nWhat it takes for someon
e to come back after they have shut down\nQuestions that open a door withou
t pushing anyone through it\n\nWho this is for\nAnyone whose work puts them
close to other people. Leaders\, HR and labour relations teams\, union rep
 resentatives\, advocates\, educators\, and people working in health\, justi
ce and community services. You do not need a title to come.\nDetails\n\nDat
