SUMMARY:LoveBack™ Healing the Pain We Carry: A 4-Day Retreat for Communit
 ies of Colour
DESCRIPTION:LoveBack™ Healing the Pain We Carry: A 4-Day Retreat for Comm
unities of Colour\nThere is pain many of us carry that did not begin with u
s.\nIt lives in our bodies. It shapes how we move through our work\, how we
show up for the people we love\, how we lead\, how we give\, and sometimes
  — how little we allow ourselves to receive. It was passed down through f
amily lines\, through community ruptures\, through systems designed to brea
k what they could not control. We learned to survive. And survival\, as nec
essary as it was\, often came at a cost.\nMany of us have spent years — s
ometimes entire careers — holding space for others while carrying wounds
of our own. We show up for our communities\, our organizations\, the people
who depend on us\, even as the weight of intergenerational and collective
trauma quietly fractures us from the inside. The communities and workplaces
we serve have been fragmented by the same forces that shaped our pain. We
feel that fragmentation too. We absorb it. We try to heal it. And we rarely
stop long enough to ask what it is costing us.\nLoveBack™ Healing the Pa
in We Carry is an invitation to stop. To come together — in community\, i
n beauty\, on the land — and begin the work of healing that makes everyth
ing else possible. Because when we heal\, we do not just heal ourselves. We
bring that healing back to the people\, places\, and communities we come f
rom. We become better able to hold others because we have allowed ourselves
to be held.\nThis is not a workshop. It is not a conference. It is a held
space — for grief\, for truth\, for rest\, for reconnection\, and for the
kind of healing that doesn't happen alone.\nWho This Is For\nThis retreat
is for those of us trying to balance professional responsibility with perso
nal development — who don't experience those two things as separate\, bec
ause they never have been.\nOur intersectionality includes healing\, trauma
\, pain\, and leadership\, all at once. We are grappling with institutional
racism and the systems built to exclude us\, while also carrying what was
handed down to us — intergenerational trauma that lives in our bodies lon
g before we have language for it. We are navigating systemic oppression in
the wider world\, and then walking into our workplaces and communities to f
ace lateral violence there too — the ways harm moves sideways\, between t
he very people who should be holding each other up.\nMany of us are leaders
. We hold positions of influence\, we mentor others\, we are the ones peopl
e come to when things fall apart — and we rarely get a space built for ou
r own repair. This retreat is as much about leadership and professional dev
elopment as it is about personal healing\, because the two are not separate
. We cannot sustainably lead\, mentor\, or hold space for others from a pla
ce of unexamined pain. The clarity\, boundaries\, and self-regulation we bu
ild here are the same capacities that shape how we lead when we go home.\nT
his is for self-healers — people already doing the work of self-awareness
and growth\, ready to go deeper in community rather than alone. It is not
therapy\, and you don't need to have "figured it all out" to belong here. Y
ou need only be ready.\nYour Co-Facilitators\nMyrna McCallum\nMyrna McCallu
m is a Métis trauma educator\, lawyer\, speaker\, and the creator of LoveB
ack™ — a healing methodology originally developed for and with Indigeno
us communities\, rooted in the belief that love is not soft: it is the most
radical act of resistance available to us. Myrna has spent her career work
ing at the intersection of trauma\, healing\, and Humanity-Centred Practice
\, and she brings her lived experience\, her stories\, and her love to ever
 y space she holds.\nNatalie Y. Gutiérrez\, LMFT\nNatalie Y. Gutiérrez is
a Puerto Rican trauma therapist\, ancestral healer\, Certified Internal Fam
ily Systems Therapist\, international keynote speaker\, and the author of T
he Pain We Carry: Healing from Complex PTSD for People of Color and its com
panion workbook. With 17 years of specialization in complex trauma — incl
 uding racial\, multigenerational\, and ancestral trauma — Natalie's decol
onial healing work is rooted in liberation and dedicated to people of the g
lobal majority. Her work has been featured in the Washington Post\, the LA
 Times\, NPR\, and PopSugar\, among others.\nAbout This Retreat\nGrounded in
  Myrna McCallum's LoveBack™ methodology and Natalie Y. Gutiérrez's landm
ark work on complex trauma and ancestral healing\, this retreat brings toge
ther two frameworks built specifically for and with communities of colour
 — and the team holding this space reflects that same intentionality.\nEve
ry participant will receive a copy of The Pain We Carry Workbook\, the comp
anion guide to her book The Pain We Carry: Healing from Complex PTSD for Pe
ople of Color. This workbook is a guide to healing racial trauma\, reclaimi
ng ancestral wisdom\, and igniting liberation. You will work through it tog
 ether\, in community\, over the four days.\nOver four days\, participants w
ill:\n\nEngage in guided group work and facilitated dialogue rooted in rela
tional practice and collective care\nExplore how the pain we carry shows up
in our bodies\, our relationships\, our caregiving\, and our leadership\nI
dentify patterns and begin practising tools for self-regulation\, reflectio
n\, and relational repair\nBe reminded that joy\, rest\, and celebration ar
e forms of ancestral resistance\nRest. Integrate. Be witnessed — and witn
ess others.\n\nThis work doesn't stay in the room. What we build here — t
he capacity to regulate\, to set boundaries\, to lead from groundedness ins
tead of survival — comes home with us. Into how we manage teams. Into how
we show up in rooms where we're the only one who looks like us. Into how w
e mentor the next generation of leaders in our communities\, so they inheri
t less of what we're working to release.\nThis retreat centres revolutionar
 y love\, truth\, authenticity\, accountability\, and liberation. It is for
those who are ready to begin — or deepen — the work of healing themselv
es and gathering the tools\, skills\, and strategies to help others do the
same.\nThe Team Holding This Space\nMoana Paulus\nMoana is a Polynesian hea
ler with roots in New Zealand and Hawaii. She will offer individual one-on-
one healing sessions to participants during the retreat — an opportunity
to receive direct\, personal care alongside the group work.\nCharmaine Pare
nteau — Resident Auntie\nCharmaine is Métis from Duck Lake\, Saskatchewa
n\, Treaty Six territory\, and serves as our Resident Auntie for LoveBack
™ programs. She brings humour\, warmth\, empathy\, and an unshakeable sen
se of care to everything she touches. Every retreat needs an Auntie. We are
lucky to have ours.\nAlicia Hrbachek & Mariana Trujillo-Lezama — Program
& Logistics Support\nAlicia Hrbachek is Cree from Peepeekisis First Nation
in Treaty 4 territory. Mariana Trujillo-Lezama is an immigrant from Cali\,

cs and participant care so that the space for healing remains uninterrupted
